Blue Jays Complete Season Sweep of Panthers

Elsah, IL, 10/13/21 – The Westminster College women's soccer team rolled into Elsah, Illinois to take on the Principia College Panthers who were celebrating their homecoming week.  The two teams traded goals in the first half and found themselves 1-1 at the half.  The Blue Jays would score two second half goals and roll back to Fulton with a 3-1 win and a season sweep of the Panthers.  The win improved their record to 5-6 overall and 5-4 in the SLIAC.  The Panthers would see their record drop to 2-8-1 overall and 2-7 in the SLIAC.

Sophomore forward Rachel Nolte () got things started for the Blue Jays in the 28th minute when she would take a pass from Lauren Halamicek () and bury her second goal of the season for a 1-0 Blue Jay lead.  The Panthers would respond just before halftime in the 43rd minute to tie the game.

The second half would belong to the Blue Jays.  Jenna Frisella would score in the 67th minute what would prove to be the game winning goal.  It was Frisella's team leading fourth goal of the season. Nolte would pad the Blue Jay lead with her second goal of the game and third of the season in the 83rd minute.  It would account for the final score of 3-1 in favor of the Blue Jays.

Westminster outshot Principia 24-5 overall and 14-3 in shots on goal.  The Blue Jays took six corner kicks to the Panthers one.  The Jays were whistled for ten fouls to the Panthers five.  Blue Jay goalkeeper Megan Davidson () went the distance for the Jays.  She would make two saves on the night on the way to picking up the win in goal.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Saturday evening when they welcome the SLIAC leading Fontbonne University Griffins to town for a SLIAC showdown. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. kick off.
