Naperville, IL, 12/11/21 – The Westminster College women's wrestling team traveled to the Chicago suburbs to compete in the North Central College Invitational. Taylor Reed (Columbia, MO / Battle) competed at the 136-pound weight class. Tristan Folkner (Florissant, MO / McCluer North) competed in the 143-pound weight class. Their combined efforts resulted in a 12th place team finish out of 16 teams competing.
Reed got started with her day with a match up with Hilda Gonzalez of Carthage College. Reed was up to the challenge as she would beat Gonzalez by decision 10-3. The victory led to a birth in the tournament quarterfinals. Waiting for Reed in the quarters was Sara Sulejmani from the host North Central College Cardinals. Sulejmani was able to pin Reed at 1:17 denying her a spot in the semifinals and sending her into wrestle backs. In that match she would face Raena Schledwitz also from North Central College. Reed would lose the match by technical fall 12-0. The loss ended her day at 1-2 in the prestigious tournament.
Folkner would face off with Leah Bishop from North Central College in her first match. Folkner would lose by fall at the 1:44 mark of the match. The loss sent her into wrestle backs. Her first match on that side of the brqcket saw her take on Kayla Davis from Fontbonne University. Folkner prevailed in her match by technical fall 12-2 over Davis to advance in the bracket. She would face Kim Nunez from North Central College next. Folkner would lose by fall to Nunez at the 0:36 mark. The loss would end her day at 1-2 in the tournament.
The Blue Jay women's wrestling team now heads to the holiday break. They will return to training after the break and will next see action in the McKendree University Open on Saturday February 12th.
