Marshall, Mo 2/5/2022- The Westminster men's wrestling team competed in the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday. They would square off against NCAA division 1, division 2 and division 3 teams. As well as top NAIA and junior college teams. Senior grappler Dalton Landreth (Marshall, MO / Marshall) would have a bit of a homecoming as he competed in the 133-pound weight class. Landreth would take first place after defeating Breyden Morrill (Baker University) via pinfall at the 1:42 mark. He would win all five of his matches by pinfall and only had four points scored against him on the day.
Landreth would receive a first-round bye. His first match of the competition came against Ben Stubblefield (Baker University) who he defeated via pinfall.
In the next round, he would take on Brise Bennett (William Penn). The Westminster senior would win this match by pinfall.
Advancing to the quarterfinal, Landreth would hit the mat against Samuel Dickey (Pratt Community College) and pin him to win the match.
The semi-final matchup saw Landreth face off against Logan Chappell (OKCI), Landreth would dispatch him by pinning his shoulders to the mat.
In the final, Landreth would take on Breyden Morrill (Baker University) who was coming off a 6-3 decision victory in the semis.
Landreth ended the day the way he started, winning via pinfall at the 1:42 mark and finishing first place overall in the 133-pound division.
