ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Westminster wrestler Sean Sax placed first in the 149-weight class in the Black Division (Fresh/Soph) bracket at the Lindenwood Open on Saturday.
Sax received a bye in the first round and defeated Kyle Prewitt of Little Rock (unattached) 11-2 by major decision. After advancing due to a medical forfeit, Sax pinned Daniel Manibog from Oklahoma (unattached) to earn a spot in the finals. In the finals Sax pinned Jordan Ringler from Davenport in 4:21 to take first place in the bracket.
In the 157-pound bracket, Jacob Warren won his first three matches with two pins and a 15-0 tech fall to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Warren dropped a 5-2 decision to Austin Landow (Lindenwood) and was sent to the consolation bracket. In his consolation match, Warren lost a 14-1 major decision to Minnesota State's Brody Nielsen.
Hunter Tessman defeated Austin Stotts (unattached Iowa State) 3-1 in his first match in the 174-pound Gold Division. Tessman lost his next two matches to finish the day 1-2.
Next up the Blue Jays will host Fontbonne for a home dual meet on Dec. 4th.
