The Westminster women's basketball dropped their second game of the season to Elmhurst College, 87-56. The Westminster Blue Jays return home from the opening tournament with a 1-1 record.
Elmhurst put the first five points on the board, but the Blue Jays managed to bring score four points to bring the game to 5-4. With 5 minutes off the clock, Elmhurst hit a 11-0 run. A layup by sophomore Krista Armontrout put a stop to their run, but Elmhurst proceed to take a 19 point lead with 3:19 left in the half. Heading into halftime, the Blue Jays trailed 43-26.
Senior Danielle Williams hit a short jumper coming out of halftime, and junior Mackenzie Haddox score nine points in the following two minutes to bring the score to 47-37. The momentum swung in Elmhurst's favor with a 10 point run to take a 20 point lead, 57-37, and they never looked back. Elmhurst scored a jump shot with 22 seconds remaining in the game to bring the score to 87-56, and the Blue Jays were unable to score again.
The Blue Jays travel to Wartburg College on Tuesday, November 25 for their next contest. Game begins at 5:00 p.m.
