Fulton, MO, 10/9/21 – Sophomore forward Mustekbel Shoune (Columbia, Mo. / Rock Bridge), like several other Blue Jays, was on the verge of a goal all day against the Eureka College Red Devils.  Shot after shot, opportunity after opportunity saw Eureka barely escape.  In the 84th minute the Red Devils would not escape as Shoune would take a booming punt from freshman keeper Toby Hughes (Jefferson City, MO / Jefferson City) that bounced over the Red Devil defense and Shoune raced towards the goal beating the keeper for his second goal of the year.

It was Senior Day for six Blue Jays.  Brantley Estes (Glasgow, KY / Glasgow) Joe Wilder (Jefferson City, MO / Jefferson City) David Wilder (Jefferson City, MO / Jefferson City) Michael Ellinger (Chesterfield, Mo. / Parkway Central) Andrew Sprengel (Winfield, MO / Winfield) and Barrett Smith (Columbia, MO / Rock Bridge) all were honored for their contributions to the Blue Jay men's soccer program at halftime.  The 1-0 victory made the day all the sweeter.  With the win the Blue Jays improve to 3-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in SLIAC play.  The Red Devils dropped to 0-10 overall and 0-8 in the SLIAC.

The Blue Jays dominated possession against the Red Devils.  They outshot Eureka 22-7 and 14-4 in shots on goal.  The Blue Jays kept the pressure on the Red Devils all game.  They took 13 corner kicks to Eureka's 0.  The Red Devils were whistled for 13 fouls in the match while the Jays were whistled for 12.

The freshman goalkeeper Hughes would get the first start of his career on Saturday and would respond by making four saves on the way to his first collegiate clean sheet.  He also chipped in with the assist on Shoune's goal to ensure his first start would be his first victory.

The Blue Jays will see a quick turnaround as they will travel to Principia College on Tuesday.  The game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. kick off.
