Fulton, MO, 9/15/21 – The Westminster College Blue Jay men's basketball team released their 2021-22 season schedule to the world on Wednesday. Head coach Matt Mitchell, who enters his 24th season at the helm of the Blue Jays, returns a talented core of players from last seasons COVID-19 shortened season and are looking to make some noise in the SLIAC in what they hope will be a return to a more normal season.
The Blue Jays will open up the 2021-22 season at home as they will host the high-octane Grinnell College Pioneers on Sunday November 7th. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off in Historic Gym. The Blue Jays will compete in three non-conference tournaments in the month of November. The highlight of the tournament schedule will be a post-Thanksgiving trip to Memphis, TN where the Blue Jays will play in the Rhodes Thanksgiving Tournament. The Jays will face off against the hosts Rhodes College Lynx on Saturday November 27th in a 2:00 p.m. matchup.
The Blue Jays veteran skipper had this to say about the upcoming year, "This is a good schedule that will test us and most importantly get us ready for the conference. We have some good returning pieces as we have four starters and numerous bench players that saw good time returning."
The Blue Jays will play a full slate of 25 regular season games. 12 of those games will come on the road, eight will be home games and five neutral court games. Other noteworthy games include a Dec 11th game at NCAA Division II Missouri Science & Technology in Rolla, MO. That game is set for a 7:00 p.m. tip. New Year's Eve will see the Blue Jays travel to take on national power Washington University in St. Louis in a 1:00 p.m. contest. The Blue Jays will open up SLIAC conference play on Wednesday January 5th at Eureka College for a 3:00 p.m. tip. The Wednesday February 16th home game against defending SLIAC champions Blackburn College will be the annual Senior Day game.
