Clayton, MO, 3/19/22 – The Blue Jays baseball team was looking to bounce back from a disappointing game one loss to conference foe the Fontbonne University Griffins.  They would look to sophomore starter Bode Gebbink (St, Joseph, Il. / St. Joeseph-Ogden) to give them a chance.  He would work a masterful seven innings holding the Griffin offense to two runs on six hits while striking out seven and walking none.  He left the game with a 3-2 lead but the Griffins would rally for two runs and walk it off in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 4-3 win over the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays would strike first in the top of the third inning.  Freshman Quin Adelson (Louisville, KY / North Oldham) would lead off the inning with a double to left.  Spencer Keiser (Old Monroe, MO / Winfield) would lay down a sacrifice bunt that allowed Adelson to advance to third with one out.  Freshman Noah Carter (Pinckneyville, IL / Pinckneyville) would then come through with an RBI single to center to give the Jays a 1-0 lead.

Later in the top of the eighth inning with the Blue Jays now trailing 2-1.  Adelson would waste no time tying the game up with lead off solo home run to knot the game at 2-2.  With one out, Noah Carter would walk. Matt Lukins (Clark, MO / Rock Bridge) would single to center field moving Carter to second.  Sophomore Austin Mayton (Wentzville, Mo. / Fort Zumwalt North) doubled to right field to drive in Carter with the go ahead run to take a 4-3 lead.

The Griffins would tie the game in the bottom of the eighth on a two out RBI double.  The Griffins would hold the Jays scoreless in the ninth inning setting up their walk off win in the bottom of the ninth.   Senior Jacob Waeltermann (Barnhart, Mo. / Seckman) worked one and one third innings in relief giving up two runs on six hits in taking the loss (0-3). The loss dropped the Blue Jays to 1-13 on the season and 0-2 in the SLIAC.
